Enalapril maleate
Indications/Uses
HTN & heart failure. Prophylaxis in patients w/ asymptomatic left ventricular dysfunction (to delay onset of symptomatic heart failure) & left ventricular dysfunction (to reduce incidence of coronary ischemic events including MI).
Dosage/Direction for Use
HTN Initially 5 mg. Severe HTN 40 mg daily. Heart failure or asymptomatic left ventricular dysfunction 2.5 mg daily. Renal impairment or those receiving diuretics 2.5 mg daily. Maintenance: 10-20 mg once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Women who can become pregnant. Pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Should not be used in patients w/ aortic stenosis or outflow tract obstruction.
Adverse Reactions
Hypotension, dizziness, fatigue, headache, nausea & other GI disorder.
Drug Interactions
Renite XL Excessive hypotension may occur w/ diuretics, other hypertensives or other agents including alcohol, drugs that lowers BP. Additive hyperkalaemic effect w/ K-sparing diuretics, K supplements (including K-containing salt substitutes) or other drugs that can cause hyperkalemia (eg, ciclosporin or indomethacin). Adverse effects may be potentiated by other drugs eg, NSAIDs.
